About Us
It is scientifically proven that dogs demonstrate empathy, emotional proximity to humans, and instinctual intimacy with strangers. Throughout extensive research, scientists and other professionals have concluded that therapy dogs are extremely beneficial and impactful to patients who suffer from mental illnesses such as anxiety, depression, and posttraumatic stress. So why doesn’t everyone who would benefit from a therapy dog have one?
Though an enormous struggle of obtaining and owning a therapy dog is coping with the responsibility that goes into training it properly (which can take up to 1-2 years), the cost of therapy dogs can make the process impossible. To initially buy the dog, you can choose between adopting from a shelter or purchasing from a breeder/kennel. Though adopting a dog is typically much cheaper than purchasing one from a shelter, there is a high risk for emotional baggage that dogs carry from post traumatic stress from their life before being brought to the shelter, which can make the training process more difficult. On top of the initial expense of purchasing the dog, additional costs such as toys, food, vet bills, training expenses, and service dog gear can accumulate and make purchasing a therapy dog almost impossible for most people. |
Happy Pet, Happy HeartWe want to make sure that every dog we fundraise to buy is being treated well after the training and purchase. In order to check this, we will do follow-ups with our recipients!
